We have found that the biggest deterrent to implementing green technologies is the up-front cost. This premium is typically in the neighborhood of roughly 2% over traditional systems. However, the argument in favor of green technologies states that the savings yielded over the entire life of the building can be as high as 10 times the initial investment. So our role as a designer is to help our clients strike a balance between up-front cost and life-cycle cost based on their individual operational concerns.
